Today many of us are so busy and distracted all the time. We are always multitasking and trying to keep up with all the new trends and deals. We have become so trained to never be satisfied with what we have. Things need to be bigger, better and more expensive. To keep up, we burden ourselves with student loans so we can get better jobs and work extra hours to make more money. We get credit cards to use money we don’t have to buy things we don’t need to impress people we don’t like or don’t know (on social media).
Studies show that our generation (Millennial’s) has more anxiety, depression and feelings of loneliness than any other generation before (despite the vast technology and information access).
I truly believe that our relationships with our stuff reflect the relationships with people around us and ourselves. For example when your watch breaks, will you fix it or will you replace it? What about your Phone? How about your friendships ?
When we learn to cherish our belongings, we also pay more attention to people we care about and learn to take better care of ourselves.
The KonMari™ philosophy is a basic concept of rediscovering who you really want to be and what kind of life you want to live. Marie Kondo said “Tidying is just a tool, not the final destination. The true goal should be to establish the lifestyle you want most once your house has been put in order”. (Book: “The Life changing Magic of Tidying up” by Marie Kondo)
One of the first steps of the Method is to visualize your perfect lifestyle. This is what you are really working toward. Once you have a Goal, you set a plan. The plan is to follow the steps. Go by category and systematically train your brain to choose joy.
The KonMari Method™ is actually about behavior change.
If you are longing for a less distracted, more peaceful life that sparks joy the KonMari Method™ is right for you. You will be surprised how well your decision making process improves, by dealing with your past and focusing on the future.Give it a try and see not only your home, but your life become more organized, calm and joyful.
